Jennifer Peace
B. Music, B. Ed, M. Music
Jenny is a retired music teacher who taught in several high schools in the Halton Board for 30 years. She plays trumpet in the Oakville Symphony, the Falgarwood Brass quintet, and various other local musical groups. She also keeps busy working as a Music Director for several theatre companies in the area. Jenny learned about the New Horizons program ten years ago and worked for two years with Toronto New Horizons before starting the Burlington group in 2012.
Jenny was invited to and participated in a series of workshops with Roy Ernst, the founder of New Horizons in preparation for starting New Horizons Burlington.
With his encouragement and inspiration, she began the project with six participants. It now has over sixty musicians and Jenny loves the opportunity to work with the amazing people in the New Horizons Burlington Band.
Carol Broer
B. Music, B. Ed, M. Music
Carol Broer has been making music for most of her life. She holds a Bachelor of Musical Arts from Western University, with a concentration on flute. For 30 years, Carol was a music educator in the Hamilton-Wentworth DSB and offered workshops and mentorship for many new music teachers. Carol also spent many years playing flute and/or singing in a jazz combo and in local music theatre productions. She joined New Horizons in 2023, and is a proud member of the trombone section. Carol is excited to be working with the Beginner Band, and is awed by the courage and determination shown by these new musicians!
When I started the first New Horizons Band in 1991, my philosophy was that anyone can learn to play music at a level that will bring a sense of accomplishment and the ability to play in a group.
Thousands of New Horizons members have proven that to be true, many starting in their late retirement years with no musical background at all. My motto is, "Your best is good enough."
